Gisteren was het de laatste dag van het Iraanse Nieuwjaar. Reeds maar dan 200 jaar vind er in het stadje Esfarayen in Noord Iran het worsteltornooi Bachokheh plaats. Het unieke aan dit tornooi is dat het in een speciaal daarvoor voorzien "stadion" in openlucht doorgaat. Een uitzinnige menigte van honderden mannen en een handjevol vrouwen verzamelde dit jaar in de plaatselijke worstelhal vanwege de regen. Toen het weer terug zonnig werd verhuisde heel de bende naar open lucht...
Ik hoef er niet bij te vermelden dat heel de gebeurtenis mooie prentjes heeft opgeleverd, zeker?
Trouwens, de Britse soldaten zijn zopas vrijgelaten...
Yesterday was the last day of the Iranian new-year. Over more then 200 years wrestlers come to the city of Esfarayen in Northern Iran for a wrestling-tournament called Bachokheh. This tournament is unique because it is held in open air. Because of the rain the enthusiastic crowd of hundreds of men and a few women assembled in the local wrestling hall but when the weather changed the whole crowd moved to the arena in open air...
